Lee Roy Selmon's history combines the merits of family sports scholarship with social service. First family, he's the youngest of nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They grew up on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. He played football alongside three brothers for Oklahoma. Three of them made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the most effective lineman in the country. Through his three seasons as Oklahoma's starter, the Sooners went 31-1-1 and claimed two championships. In 1975, he received his third scholarship and was awarded the title of an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during college. After graduation, he relocated to Tampa where he played nine years with the Buccaneers was all-pro three times, before beginning a new business career. He was an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one among America's best young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds in his college days. He captained the 1975 team. He was named assistant director of Athletics for the University of South Florida, in 1993. In 1988 his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made it into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 handed out their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The award was presented by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
